HallomannRammstein is a German metal band which was formed in 1994, in Berlin, and consists of Till Lindemann (lead vocals), Richard Kruspe (lead guitar and backing vocals), Paul Landers (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Oliver Riedel (bass guitar, “Ollie”), Christoph Schneider (drums and Electronic percussion, “Doom”) and Christian Lorenz (keyboards, “Flake”). The band is widely accepted as part of the Neue Deutsche Härte scene, alongside bands such as Oomph!, Laibach, and Die Krupps. Their songs are performed almost exclusively in German. They have sold over 22 million records worldwide. Rammstein’s entire catalogue is published by Universal Music Group. Since its formation, Rammstein has had no changes in lineup. Although the majority of their songs are written in German, Rammstein has had success across the world. Name Rammstein takes its name indirectly from the West German town of Ramstein-Miesenbach, the site of the flight show disaster on August 28, 1988. The band’s signature song, the eponymous Rammstein, is a commemoration of the tragedy that took place at the Ramstein Air Base. The extra “m” in the band’s name makes it translate literally as “ramming stone” to convey the Teutonic sound of their music. In a short period before the band became well known, they performed using the name “Rammstein-
German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN have released an epic nine-minute Specter Berlin-directed video for “Deutschland”, the first single from their long-awaited seventh studio album, simply titled “Rammstein”. The LP comes out May 17 via UME/Spinefarm in Europe and Caroline Records in the U.S.
Earlier this week, RAMMSTEIN was criticized by some Jewish leaders in Germany who believed early teasers for “Deutschland” trivialized The Holocaust.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Charlotte Knobloch, former president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and Holocaust survivor, said: With this video, the band has crossed a line. The instrumentalization and trivialization of the Holocaust, as shown in the images, is irresponsible.”
“I consider this a tasteless exploitation of artistic freedom,” added Felix Klein, commissioner of anti-semitism in Germany.
RAMMSTEIN’s first studio album since 2009’s “Liebe Ist Für Alle Da” was produced by Olsen Involtini with RAMMSTEIN and was mixed at a Santa Monica, California studio with Rich Costey, an American producer who has previously worked with MUSE, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and FRANZ FERDINAND, among others.
Rammstein” is a song by the German industrial metal band Rammstein. It is the eleventh and final track on their debut album, Herzeleid, and was the first song written by the band. It is about the Ramstein air show disaster.[1] According to an interview with rhythm guitarist Paul Landers, the sound of the main riff of the song is made by him and lead guitarist Richard Kruspe, each playing a similar riff at different octaves (Richard plays the middle and Paul plays the lower).[citation needed] The song was featured in the 1997 David Lynch film Lost Highway.
In the Live aus Berlin performance of the song, lead vocalist Till Lindemann ascends from underneath the stage via a trap door. He wears a burning coat, and special goggles from which a laser beam is projected from one of the lenses. When they performed the song in the 2004–05 Reise, Reise tour, Lindemann no longer wore the flaming jacket, opting instead for dual arm mounted flame throwers.[citation needed]
Rammstein has been a part of every tour setlist since the song’s inception, including the Pre-Herzeleid years. The only tour it has not been included in is the tour for Liebe ist für alle da and Made in Germany 1995–2011, although in the last Made in Germany tour/unofficial tour name of the Made in Germany tour Wir halten das Tempo tour, the introduction of the song has been used to tease the audience as they performed the intro with guitar flamethrowers before segueing into “Bück Dich”.
The artwork, meanwhile, is quite simple — an unlit matchstick against a white background. The band unveiled the cover art in a new promo video that can be seen below.
In our interview with Richard Kruspe, the Rammstein guitarist told us the following about the German industrial band’s first album in 10 years: “I think it’s going to be an album that has a certain kind of potential that Rammstein hasn’t achieved yet. For me, one of the reasons to step back into making records with Rammstein was to balance the popularity of the band as a live act with the actual music. With Rammstein, people tend to talk about the fire and all the live stuff. I thought, ‘I don’t want to be another KISS,’ where people talk about makeup and stuff like that and no one talks about the music.”
Pre-orders for the album are available at this location, with a special edition on sale at the band’s webstore. While no North American dates have been announced yet, Rammstein will embark on a European tour in late May. Most shows are sold out, but tickets for select dates can be found here.
